I have well-meaning friends who really believe this stuff. I toyed with it a little about 35 years ago, (mainly as part of the process of ditching the judgemental repent-or-be-damned aspects of the mainstream Christianity I grew up with) but soon saw through the wishful thinking and the underlying narcissism.
