In a word: yes. The global economy is an energy system; money is merely a token representing access to that energy. Resource limitation issues - notably climate change - mean that our kids will be less well off than us.

That would be fine if we worked together and a sense of community prevailed. Unfortunately politicians make a living by selling delusional optimism. When that (inevitably) fails, resentment will kick in, finger pointing will start, and the seds of conflict are sown. Let's not go there.
