Most people I know are science-literate and are otherwise decent, caring folk. Yet any mention of the climate crisis results in an awkward silence and a rapid change of subject. Nobody seems willing to examine their own carbon footprint and see if they really NEED to fly, to take a long-distance holiday road-trip, or to renovate their home to get the latest 'look'.

It's all Someone Else's Problem. This crisis is unlike any other - we need a total shake up of our value systems such that conspicuous consumption and hypermobility are seen for what they are - mental illnesses. I'd go so far as to say these attributes amount to psychopathy, as they are complicit in slow-motion genocide.
